The local café became synonymous with cozy, atmospheric, relaxed ever since 6 famous F•R•I•E•N•D•S first sat down on an oversized orange couch on national TV in the ‘90s. And as a couple who held their own wedding reception on the floor above our favorite local coffee shop, we couldn’t be more enthusiastic about the idea of celebrating your happily-ever-after in the heartwarming atmosphere of a café. (Bonus: you can have a friend bring you your favorite latte during your wedding reception!)
Earlier this year, we had the pleasure to shoot Lucy & Alex’s classy urban micro wedding in downtown Orlando with their wedding reception at The Bynx Café, and we fell in love with the hip downtown vibe of this sweet little spot! Nestled in the heart of downtown Orlando, The Bynx Café might not appear to its daytime guests as a wedding reception venue. This modern, urban café serves up coffee and sells vinyl, books, ephemera, and merch during the day but during the nighttime serves as a multifunctional space, hosting events, music recording sessions, and yes—wedding receptions! Aiming to exist as a “third space” for the downtown Orlando community to gather, socialize, and deepen relationships, The Bynx Café furthers that mission through its dedication to good coffee, good music, and good conversation.
The physical footprint of The Bynx Café may be small, but its tall ceilings and sweeping windows lend a bright, airy feel to the space. With a comfortable guest count of up to 60 guests, this atmospheric wedding reception is ideal for micro weddings or intimate celebrations with your nearest & dearest. As soon as your guests enter the café, they’re greeted by the modern industrial-styled coffee bar, space for table seating, with the vinyl shop to the right behind a stunning wood slat feature wall. While the configuration of the room’s layout is up to your unique event, our clients Lucy & Alex set up their buffet and cake in the vinyl space, allowing their guest tables and stage to fill in the main café space.
One major benefit to hosting your micro wedding reception at The Bynx Café is that, unlike holding a festive feast at your favorite restaurant, the entire space is fully yours for the event! Most restaurant wedding receptions offer a private room at best, still leaving you to parade through the rest of the main dining space with your bridal party (although if that’s your thing, go for it…) or, at worst, simply offering you a large table tucked in a back corner. But for a rate that’s only slightly more than booking a private room at a nice restaurant, you can have a fully private space for your festivities!

The space comes with a sound stage and PA system, though be sure to ask if the use of the equipment is an additional cost or if it’s included with your rental fee.
Only a buffet-style wedding reception will work in the space (though most micro wedding receptions are buffet, anyway!)
The kitchen isn't set up for cooking, but no worries! Just let your caterer know so they can bring chafing trays and burners to keep everything warm.
Drinks must be provided in-house by Bynx (no outside vendors), can be cash bar or tab.

Most other options are either booking a private room (or just a large table) at a local restaurant, which has its pros and cons, or booking a full wedding reception venue, which can be incredibly expensive for the budgets of micro weddings. The Bynx Café truly is the best of both worlds: a private, intimate space that won’t break the bank.
Central location
Many wedding venues in Orlando, FL are located in the offskirts of the downtown area, largely due to space constraints. Your options for a wedding reception venue in the heart of downtown itself are rather limited—which is why we love The Bynx Café. Located a brief 5-minute’s walk from Lake Eola, this affordable and centrally-located spot is ideal for urban micro weddings.
Modern urban vibe
If you’re into the hip urban industrial aesthetic (with touches of mid-century modern), you’re going to absolutely love the feel of The Bynx Café! Many micro wedding reception venues are a bit lackluster in vibe, serving as blank slates for each wedding’s specific tastes. While The Bynx Café is not overly decorated, the structural elements of its focal point coffee bar and records room are eye-catching enough to give character without overwhelming your wedding's theme.
Potential setbacks to hosting a wedding reception at The Bynx Café in downtown Orlando
Downtown parking
While The Bynx Café does not have a dedicated parking lot, there are three City of Orlando parking garages that are nearby (Parkside Post, Capital Plaza, and Administration Center). If your wedding ceremony is located close to the café, you and your guests could easily walk to your wedding reception (bonus points for avoiding traffic delays!).
No wedding coordinator on staff
When you plan your downtown micro wedding reception at The Bynx Café, you are quite literally renting a coffee shop for the evening. This means that, unlike more robust wedding venues, the staff are not trained to handle private events and day-of event coordination (as of the writing of this blog post—that of course may change in the future). This may not be an issue for your event if you have your own day-of coordinator and/or wedding planner, and the team at The Bynx Café will be sure to answer your questions leading up to the event: but just know that this space does not come with wedding planning or coordination assistance.
Tight squeeze for micro wedding receptions
The seating arrangement to accommodate 40-60 guests for a micro wedding reception The Bynx Café certainly is a tight fit. However, it is doable! You may have to get creative with your table layouts, or perhaps consider hosting your wedding reception at The Bynx Café if your guest count is below 50 to ensure everyone is comfortable.
