The 2024 wedding trends we’re most anticipating—and surprised by

Couple at wedding laughing - 2024 wedding trends for photography

Just a glance at the Pinterest board your 12-year-old self created for your wedding inspiration is enough to tell you that the landscape of wedding trends is ever-changing. While what was popular with weddings in decades past changed at a slower pace, in today’s era of social media, wedding trends seem to evolve year-to-year, if not minute-by-minute.

As an Orlando wedding photographer and videographer, we’ve shot weddings of many shapes and sizes, from micro weddings to intimate weddings to elaborate celebrations, each with their own unique personality and style. However, we’re seeing the internet buzz with several hot wedding trends in 2024, and as bookings fill in for the 2024 wedding season, we’re excited to see how many of these predictions come true for our own wedding photography clients.

While there are so many other lists sharing 2024 wedding trends (after all, it isn’t a trend if it’s not being talked about everywhere!), we’re offering our own spin on some of these from the perspective of a wedding photographer and videographer.

Here are our most anticipated—and surprising—wedding style and wedding photography trends for 2024:

Documentary-style wedding photography and videography

2024 is saying goodbye to stiff, overly posed wedding photos. (That’s right: no more prom poses.) In 2024, couples are searching for documentary-style wedding photography and videography that captures authentic, candid moments in an overarching story of their special wedding day. Whether trading formal bridal portrait shoots or simply capturing authentic interactions between the couple and their guests, 2024 wedding photography is trending strongly towards capturing the genuine emotions and interactions of the day.

Classically-edited, film-style wedding photography

This 2024 wedding photography trend we are ALL about. Heavily-edited, filter-style wedding photos are out; timeless editing and film-style photography is in. As 2024 weddings trend towards minimalism and vintage-inspired aesthetics, couples are looking to preserve their wedding day through photography and videography that evokes a more subtle tone that will stand the test of time. We’re particularly excited to see this become more and more sought after by our clients as this is the editing style we specialize in, ensuring our couples’ wedding photos and videos evoke the same emotions even decades from now.

Flash-style wedding photography

No, really! We’ve seen a big uptick in high-contrast, modern-looking wedding photos that rely on flash for indoor or nighttime wedding receptions. While natural lighting (think outdoor lighting or brightly-lit indoor venues) takes the cake for wedding ceremonies, more couples are loving the look of high-contrast, modern use of flash to capture the moments of their nighttime festivities. The result? Vintage-inspired wedding photography that gives an air of sophistication.

Intimate weddings and micro weddings

Intimate wedding ceremonies, micro weddings, and elopements have been rising in popularity since 2020, and that’s not stopping anytime soon. Our upcoming weddings in Orlando and Central Florida in 2024 will largely be smaller, more personal celebrations. Intimate gatherings allow for deeper connection with your loved ones and provide an opportunity to save money for your future together. We especially love small weddings as they make for stunning, meaningful wedding photos that reflect the intimacy of the day!

Bright color palettes

Back when Michael and I were getting married, muted and boho-inspired color palettes were all the rage. Now, (possibly inspired by the pink mania of the Barbie movie?) 2024 is bringing vibrant, eye-catching color schemes to weddings everywhere. These vivid color palettes are adding energy and personality to 2024 weddings, allowing couples to show off their unique style.

Small bridal parties (or none at all)

Couples are rethinking the traditional bridal party setup. Especially as micro weddings or intimate ceremonies rise in popularity, we think we’re going to see minimal or even no bridal parties become a 2024 wedding trend as couples prefer to center their wedding day on their love story. Some couples are even opting to have their bridal party sit with guests during the wedding ceremony, making the happy couple the focal point of their wedding ceremony photos and videos.

Unstructured wedding receptions

This is one of our personal takes that we haven’t seen anyone else talk about, but we think is going to be BIG in 2024: Highly-structured wedding receptions with traditional games are becoming a thing of the past. In 2024, wedding receptions are all about throwing a carefree, laid-back party where guests can relax, dance, and celebrate without being managed on a strict timeline.

Audio guest books

As couples seek more personal connections with loved ones on their wedding day, 2024 is seeing a rise in audio guest books as a modern twist on traditional guest books. Capturing the voices and heartfelt messages of friends and family makes for a cherished keepsake that you’ll treasure for years to come.

Dual wedding photographer + videographers

Especially as micro weddings, intimate weddings, and elopements are becoming more and more common, couples are looking for ways to reduce wedding planning stress and save costs—and a big way to do that is hiring a dual wedding photographer and videographer. Rather than hiring two separate vendors, which is often expensive, finding an all-in-one wedding photographer ensures consistency in style across your wedding photos and video with a holistic storytelling perspective of your day. Plus, working with only one wedding photography and videography vendor provides a deeper connection, as this person really gets to know your dynamic as a couple, and simplifies communication and coordination during wedding planning.

2024 wedding trends are all about redefining the way we capture and celebrate love. Modern weddings are all about personalization over tradition and connection over formality. As an Orlando wedding photographer and videographer, we can’t wait to see these 2024 wedding trends and personal predictions come to life in ways unique to each of our couples!
