3 Reasons to hire a storytelling wedding photographer

Getting married is a lot of fun. There is nothing more magical than getting everyone that you know together to witness you and your significant other expressing your love for each other. If we can be honest, planning a wedding is also equally stressful. From the little details, figuring out who to invite, and picking the vendors… These things are important decisions that take a lot of time to figure out.

In this article, we want to give you three reasons why photographers who are story driven will provide you the best value and create a wedding experience that you will cherish forever!

01: They’ll listen to you

Storytelling wedding photographers are hugely intentional in listening to you and your couple. We know that each and every couple is unique. From their love story, to their engagement, to the day of the wedding, each and every detail is unique to you. We will spend more time listening to you, asking more intimate questions about who you two are, how you got together, what your hopes and dreams are for your wedding and then plan around your wedding!

This happens not only at the initial consultation, but through the entirety of the wedding planning season! We’ll check in every so often, based upon your availability, so that we’re aligned with you on how your planning is going and if we can offer any insights based upon our experience shooting other weddings.

Having check-ins up until your wedding day will help make sure you’re not worrying if you told your photographer to take pictures of something!

02: They’ll listen with more intentionality

Our goal as storytelling photographers is to ensure that we have listened to you and captured the key moments that you wanted from your wedding. What that looks like is that during our conversations in the run-up to your wedding, we will ask questions about what matters the most to you.

One example from a recent wedding that we did was when we sat down with the couple for their initial consultation, we played a word game to understand who they were as a couple. What we found was that the couple was really interested in highlighting their love story and celebrating with all of their friends and family. So when we confirmed that with the couple, our shot list was focused on ensuring that we got photos of all the people who attended the wedding and capturing little moments of the couple’s love.

03: They’ll care about the details

This last point is really a culmination of all the hard work that you’ve put in over the wedding planning season. As storytelling wedding photographers, we are huge into ensuring that we don’t miss things that we’ve talked about. For some, that means they will keep a list of all the shots you’ve talked about on a paper so that they can track throughout the day, for others, it may mean that we work really closely with you or your designated day of wedding coordinator to ensure that everything is on track and captured.

Documenting small details like this custom embroidery on the bride and groom’s shoes is such a fun thing to remember the day by!

Even more so, we will take the time on the day of the wedding to make sure that things like cell phones are out of people’s pockets, that watches are on or off, or that things are well coordinated properly. These things, while so small, are the things that ensure your wedding day is perfect.

We hope this gives you some insight into why you should hire a storytelling wedding photographer. If you’re planning a wedding and are seeking a photographer, be sure to contact us. We would love to hear your story!
